At the 9th Academy of Wine Business Research, the Runner-up Best Paper Award was won by Maximilian Iselbornand Prof. Simone Loose for their paper „Which success factors drive profitability of privately owned wineries“. The Academy of Wine Business Research is the most important forum worldwide for research in this area, with more than 80 international papers presented. The Geisenheim researchers analyzed economics factors and their influence on the success of German bottled wine.
They came to the conclusion that quality management was by far the most important factor, followed by company size and efficiency. The paper was based on the ‘Company Analysis’ project, currently led by Mr. Iselborn,in which the balance sheet data of German vintners is evaluated and compared. The project has been running for 20 years, and this award signifies great international recognition for Geisenheim research.
